The University of Vigo is a member of the International Alliance of Maritime Universities (IAMRI). Campus do Mar is a joint research center involving Spanish and Portuguese universities and research institutions, formed by 23 universities, public research institutes, cooperation platforms and technology centers. The project is led by the Spanish Academy of Sciences (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas – CSIC), the Spanish Institute of Marine Sciences (Instituto Español de Oceanografía) and the University of Vigo, which includes two other universities in the autonomous region of Galicia, La Coroney University of Asia, University of Santiago de Compostela, University of Aveiro in Portugal, University of Porto, University of Coimbra, University of Montes and Alto Douro, etc. In 2015, Ocean University of China signed a memorandum of cooperation with the University of Vigo and Campus do Mar to strengthen scientific research and academic exchanges and exchange student exchanges, and presided over the discussion and implementation steps of the two universities’ joint application for the EU Erasmus Mundus exchange program.
The cooperation project is committed to scientific research and academic exchanges among member universities, the improvement of internationalization level, and the promotion of academic level of marine scientific research. Through cooperation with 25 scientific research institutions including member universities, more than 3,000 researchers and 1,500 doctors have participated in the project, and more than 6,000 research projects have been carried out in the past five years.
